Lower Your Costs

A plan to make life affordable.

LaKesha's priorities start with the cost of living, the everyday concerns almost everyone in the 14th District shares, built from listening to families, workers, and small-business owners across the district.

This is the whole reason LaKesha is running. Groceries, rent, health care, and gas cost too much, and paychecks aren't keeping up. She'll focus relentlessly on the everyday costs squeezing working families.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act
  • Let Medicare negotiate lower prescription drug prices
  • Deliver middle-class and working-family tax relief
  • Take on price-gouging and junk fees

The mills that built these towns are gone and wages still lag the rest of the state. LaKesha's career is getting capital and loans into Main Street businesses so they can grow and hire here at home.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Expand access to capital through CDFIs and community lenders
  • Bring new advanced-manufacturing and lithium jobs to local workers
  • Open federal contracts and cut red tape for small businesses
  • Invest in apprenticeships and workforce training in the Foothills

Families should be able to afford a home in every part of the district, and build wealth instead of being trapped by rising costs.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Invest in affordable housing development
  • Protect renters and first-time homebuyers
  • Address the rising costs that price families out
  • Support responsible, community-first development

The Medicaid cuts coming out of Washington put more than 600,000 North Carolinians and the rural hospitals our communities depend on at risk, even North Carolina's own Republican senator broke with his party to vote no.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Reverse the Medicaid cuts that threaten rural hospitals
  • Protect coverage for working families and seniors
  • Fully fund community health centers
  • Lower out-of-pocket and prescription costs

Two years after the storm, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are still rebuilding and hundreds of Foothills jobs were lost. The people of Rutherford and Burke deserve a representative who shows up and gets recovery done.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Get stalled federal recovery dollars to the communities that need them
  • Rebuild roads, water systems, and small businesses in the Foothills
  • Harden phone and broadband networks against the next disaster
  • Hold agencies accountable for delivering aid promptly

No member of Congress should get rich off the office. LaKesha takes no corporate PAC money and will fight to make government work for people, not insiders.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks
  • Get corporate PAC money out of politics
  • Real transparency and ethics enforcement
  • Regular town halls and honest communication with constituents

Every child deserves a great public school regardless of zip code, and every worker deserves a path to a good-paying career.

In Congress, LaKesha will:
  • Invest in public schools and pay teachers what they're worth
  • Expand career and technical education and apprenticeships
  • Make higher education and training affordable
  • Strengthen workforce pathways tied to local industry
